Studying abroad is not reserved for a select few – at our Faculty, it is a common part of university life and an opportunity available to you as well. There are two main pathways to gain international experience: the traditional Erasmus+ programme or the more recent opportunities offered through the 4EU+ Alliance.
The Erasmus+ programme is the most popular way to gain international experience. You can participate either in a study stay (spending one or two semesters at a partner university abroad) or in a traineeship (working in a laboratory, company, or institution anywhere in Europe).
How to choose a destination:
Each department or institute has its own agreements with partner universities abroad. The selection process usually begins by reviewing the courses offered at the host institution. If the courses correspond to your study plan, your programme coordinator can recognize them upon your return, including compulsory courses where applicable.
When to apply:
The main selection rounds take place in the spring semester (usually in February or March) for the following academic year. If funding remains available, an additional application round for the spring semester may be announced in the autumn.
First steps:
Contact your departmental or institute Erasmus coordinator. They will advise you on suitable destinations and inform you about the required application materials, such as a CV and a motivation letter. You will also need to create an application in Charles University’s online application system.
Detailed information about the Erasmus+ programme at the Faculty of Science, Charles University, is available on the Faculty website.
The 4EU+ Alliance is a partnership of eight leading European universities: Heidelberg University, Paris-Panthéon-Assas University, Sorbonne University, the University of Copenhagen, the University of Geneva, the University of Milan, the University of Warsaw, and Charles University. The alliance was established to strengthen cooperation among these institutions, particularly in the areas of education and research.
What does 4EU+ offer?
In addition to traditional semester-long study exchanges, the alliance provides a wide range of short-term opportunities, including summer schools, workshops, and collaborative project meetings involving international student teams.
Online courses
Students can enrol in shared courses offered by partner universities, many of which are delivered online or in a blended format. This allows you to earn credits from prestigious European universities without leaving Prague.
Mini-grants for student projects
The alliance also supports student-led initiatives. If you form a team with students from other 4EU+ member universities, you may apply for financial support for your own research project or other collaborative activities.
