Seeking answers
Do you have any questions or problem connected with your study or the Faculty, and are looking for an answer or a solution? Before you ask anyone, try the following resources:
Department of Student Affairs list of frequently asked questions (natur.cuni.cz/fakulta/studium/helpdesk; Czech only) – covers a large number of frequently asked questions
Faculty website (natur.cuni.cz) – contains factual information
Study regulations (natur.cuni.cz/fakulta/senat/predpisy-pravni-normy/vnitrni-predpisy-prf-uk (Czech only) and natur.cuni.cz/fakulta/studium/agenda-bc-mgr)
Karolinka (web.natur.cuni.cz/study/karolinka/; Czech only) – firm certainty (see Where to Find Information on Studies)
SIS – similar to Karolinka, it provides information about subjects and teachers; you can also learn about the final thesis topics offered and the occupancy of various classrooms and subjects.
If you do not find the answer you seek, contact the person in charge who will help you out (see Who to See for Which Issue). If you do not know who to approach, use the public forum on the Student Web (web.natur.cuni.cz/student/forum). For any questions, you can also approach the student senators (web.natur.cuni.cz/student/clenove-skasu, skas@natur.cuni.cz) who will give you advice, show you the way, and represent students in various situations.
In addition, there are both official (facebook.com/prf.uk.praha) and unofficial (facebook.com/groups/26075861420) Facebook groups for the Faculty of Science, Charles University, which bring together the Faculty’s students, graduates, and teachers. Along the same lines, most individual programmes/fields/years of study have their own pages/groups, as does the Student Chamber of the Academic Senate (facebook.com/skas.prf.uk/).
Older university colleagues are obviously a welcome source of information. However, you should exercise increased caution (!) and, just in case, double-check the information with official resources (Department of Student Affairs, guarantors, study advisors and senators). It is likely that some things (such as study regulations) may have changed somewhat since these older colleagues last experienced them.
Prevention of sexual harassment and other undesirable behaviour
The Faculty of Science, Charles University places great emphasis on prevention and ensuring a safe environment for everyone. It will not accept any forms of sexual and gender harassment or violence, and expects all individuals in the University community, visitors, and contractual partners to treat each other with mutual respect, consideration, and dignity.
If you are uncertain as to whether you have fallen victim to sexual harassment, you can contact our advisory service (centrumcarolina.cuni.cz/CCENG-1.html) or independent experts via obtezovani@ruk.cuni.cz. These services are also available to those who have been accused of harassment. If an employee harasses you, you can approach the Ethics Committee (cuni.cz/UKEN-1253.html). More information is available at natur.cuni.cz/fakulta/aktuality/sexualni-obtezovani (Czech only).
