The use of information technology within the Faculty’s information system is governed by Dean’s Measure No. 4/2016. To help you keep track of it all, here is an overview of how your "digital identity" at the university works.
We recommend setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) as soon as possible. MFA enhances the security of your university account and helps protect access to your email and other Charles University services. You can use the Charles University mobile app for authentication. More information can be found here.
The Central Authentication Service (CAS) is your main gateway to university services and is managed by the University's Information Technology Centre (CIT). When you received your student ID card, you were also assigned a personal identification number (printed below your photo on the card), a CAS login, and an initial password.
You can find your login name at cas.cuni.cz after logging in with your personal identification number.
Your faculty login is identical to your CAS login.
Which credentials should you use?
It is important to know which credentials to enter in each system:
CAS, SIS, and most university applications: Log in using your CAS login or personal identification number.
Faculty Information System (computer classrooms, printers, faculty website): Use your faculty login.
Cloud services (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365): Always log in using your university email address in the format login@natur.cuni.cz.
Initial Password
The initial password is valid for only 5 calendar days after it is issued.
It is intended solely for setting up your own secure verified password in CAS.
Verified Password
This is your primary password and remains valid for 365 days.
You can change or renew it after logging in to CAS.
For security reasons, the Faculty does not allow the use of so-called unverified passwords.
1. Synchronization
Once you change your password in CAS, the change will be propagated to other Faculty of Science systems within approximately 15 minutes (provided that you already have an account in those systems). If a new account is being created, synchronization may take up to 24 hours.
2. Preventing Access Problems
We strongly recommend adding a personal email address and mobile phone number to your CAS profile. If you forget your password or it expires, you will be able to restore access online by yourself. Otherwise, you will need to visit the Faculty in person.
3. Login Issues
If you cannot log in to either CAS or SIS, please consult the guides available on the CIT website, contact the CIT Helpdesk, or reach out to CIT directly for assistance.
How to Obtain a New Initial Password
If you have lost your initial password or it has expired, you can obtain a new one at any Charles University ID Card Service Centre (a list of locations is available on cuni.cz).
At the Faculty of Science, initial passwords can be issued at:
Geology Library (Albertov 6, ground floor, right-hand side)
Biology Library (Viničná 7, 1st floor, opposite the staircase)
Department of Information Technology (Albertov 6, basement offices S02 and S04)
